Book club at ZimKaffee in Zürich

Join us for a roundtable discussion centered around the book “The Uncertainty of Hope” by  Valerie Tagwira. The session will begin with a brief summary of the book, followed by a deep dive into its themes and connections to the realities in Zimbabwe. Kumbi Kahiya will provide valuable insights into how the book reflects Zimbabwe’s socio-political dynamics and offers a unique perspective on the subject.

The Uncertainty of Hope by Valerie Tagwira won the National Arts Merit Award (NAMA), Zimbabwe 2008.

Kumbi Kahiya is a women’s rights activist from Zimbabwe and head of the Girls and Women Empowerment Network (GWEN). Through the Smart Girls Nest project, the organisation is committed to education, digital access, protection from gender-based violence and the economic empowerment of girls and young women in rural Zimbabwe. Kumbi brings many years of expertise in youth and women’s work and in the advancement of girls and women to the table.

Participation in the event is free of charge.

However, organising the event requires a lot of time and financial resources. We will therefore be asking for voluntary donations on site to cover the costs incurred and to support Kumbi’s project.

As a guideline, we recommend a donation of 10 Fr. per person – just give as much as you can.
